In this report, well summarize transportation projects that are being designed for construction in the near future and well report on preliminary work of a citizens committee working on a package of transportation improvements that will be presented to voters for funding in the next 13 months.

Well restrict our report to streets and highways that likely are commonly used by Dove Mountain residents.

Before the year is out, there should be a traffic signal at Dove Mountain Blvd. and Tangerine Road.

Both ADOT, the Arizona Department of Transportation, and the Town of Marana have multi-million dollar projects on the drawing boards.

Construction is beginning to widen Tangerine Road to four lanes from First Avenue to Oracle Road. Cost: $ 9 million. Continued growth in the Oracle corridor is being addressed with an allocation of $ 14 million to widen Oracle in two segments: Tangerine to Calle Concordia and Pusch Ridge to La Reserve. This will be 2006 and 2007 work.

Also in the works are projects to continue widening on segments of arterial streets such as Thornydale from Orange Grove to the CDO Wash, Cortaro Farms Road east of the UP railroad tracks. Start dates are uncertain at this time but design and other preliminary work continues.

By far the largest project is the $ 28 million extension of Dove Mountain Blvd. southwest to a new interchange called Twin Peaks at I-10. It will be located between Cortaro and Avra Valley Roads. A 2007 start is planned.

ADOT intends to keep widening I-10 toward Phoenix. A current project widens to six lanes from Cortaro to Tangerine. In a few months, another project will carry the six-laning to Pinal Air Park Road. Preliminary engineering is underway for widening to I-8.
